06.02 Deddington Town Colts Lions v Cumnor Minors (Win 3-1)

On a warm and sunny morning (compared to the snow and ice) the squad turned up less George D who was sick and Charlie.

We met a lovely bunch of parents, coaches and children for what was always going to be an enjoyable match due to their hospitality.

Starting was Adam, Tom, Cam, Flynn, Grant, Mathew and Wills, playing an experimental formation at the back without George M, George D or Charlie.

We started slowly and seemed to have lost the polish we had over the last few games. The team looked out of position the closing down and marking was sloppy. It looked like a team thrown together for a Sunday afternoon in the park. One of the managers of the Cumnor team was the loudest he had been all season and was seen on his knees at one point praying for deliverance! or had he lost...........his voice?

We reaped our just reward when Deddington who were much the better side scored after 10 minutes. The good looking Cumnor coaches then made a change and brought on George M in defence and almost immediately we looked a better balanced side.

The forwards seemed to have more confidence and Flynn was rewarded with a speculative goal after a good run and chasing, after 13 minutes (well deserved for Flynn). Following this we seemed to take a further step up in improvement and following a corner from Tom, Wills finished well.

2-1 at half time and Harry came on. Our game improved constantly during the second half and following a penalty being awarded Harry slotted it home professionally on the floor in the corner (3-1).

After this we pressed and were never going to lose with Lions defending deep inside their half.

Friendly match around 10-0 to Cumnor, the team played out of position and did everything that was asked of them that they did not do in the 1st match!

Cams man of the match generously sponsored by "Cossack hair styling for men" as featured on Mr Doyes bouffant barnet was Shooting boots for steadying a wayward ship, who also scored a hat trick in the friendly.

Well done to all including Lions we wish them well!
