14.10 Milton United v Cumnor Minors (Loss 5-3)

Another very good game, it shows how tight this league is. The tactics were discussed at length in certain hostelries in Oxford on Saturday night between the hours of 7 and 3 when we bumped into Jo (Grants mum) we are not saying at what time! The problem was the place was almost full. Mainly with her bags from her shopping expedition, it was like the bag lady of Oxford except they were all full with dresses, hats, coats, perfume, skirts................possibly some underwear hidden at the bottom................ To football;

Congratulations to the boys on a good team performance, the pitch was ENORMOUS and to us it was like playing at Wembley with the dug outs and the club house.

The first half started well on the MASSIVE pitch, we passed and moved and looked very good from the defence to the attack. Lots of good movement, calling for the ball and nice touches and we looked like a team on a GARGANTUAN mission.

We gradually pushed our advantage and following a lovely corner from Harry, he dropped it right into the danger zone it was deflected for a goal. 1-0

After this we again pushed forward, but from one of the only attacks in first few minutes they got a goal back after some good inter play in their midfield. 1-1

George Murphy put his foot on the ball in the first half and gave a STUPENDOUS performance dominating this position, making lovely balls left and right, up and down, through and to the side (you get the picture).  When outside the box he received the ball looked for an option and decided to shoot, a long powerful shot flew into the top corner - amazing. 2-1

Then again Grant picked the ball up in their penalty area and slotted one past their diving keeper a good clinical finish 3-1.

The later part of the half the Milton midfield picked the ball up as we probably were tyring on the MASSIVE pitch and started to put the attacks together. If we could have somehow got a fourth I believe that would have finished Milton. However, they were rewarded with some good opportunities but at least two of Boris's saves (Sorry Adam) were world class. Ultimately Boris was the difference between the teams in the first half.

The second half gradually developed into one way traffic - The wrong way with the midfield of Milton pushing forward. We defended with TREMENDOUS heart but after wave after wave of attack something had to give and we lost three goals to make it 3-4.

Then the coaches got out their WHOPPING secret weapon!  moving King Dom to the midfield gave us the the extra fight we needed and we put them under pressure with wave after wave of attacks and corners but all to no avail, we could have made it four each and from their it could go anywhere.

However, with all that pressure we left it a bit more open at the back and after a MASSIVE performance we let one slip 3-5 and the game was almost finished.!

A really good game that the boys should be IMMENSELY proud off, three goals from our midfield we can score from anywhere.

Mentions to all not mentioned above

GUY - Was superb as a lot of attacks came down that right hand side and dealt with most - Always improves every game.
ELLIOTT - Kept them at bay in the first half and they did not like him up front in the second
COOKIE - Ran and ran and made some lovely passes
JAMIE - Unfortunately injured early today we missed his creativity at times and want him back for the next match fighting fit
GEORGE D - Still coming back to fitness after a long lay off tried his hardest
MACKER - Playing largely alone in the second half ran and ran and harried and worked very hard a credit to his team mates.
MEHMET - Worked hard trying to improve his movement needed more rub of the green, an accomplished professional.
CAMERON - Worked his socks off with some excellent challenges and runs, as usual a performance that he always put in and achieves so much.
