18-10-15       2nd RD CUP     CUMNOR MINORS 2  v  MARSTON SAINTS 5   (AET)

The Cumnor boys were visited by A league Marston in the 2nd round of the cup and were hoping to give them a match and maybe spring a surprise.

Cumnor started the game with a 4-1-4-1 formation, and the game started end to end with no clear cut openings that was until JAMIE slipped a nice through to HARRY who buried the ball into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead for the underdogs Cumnor (13mins ), Marston came back into the game and went close on a couple of occasions but the Cumnor boys were also still looking dangerous on the break with ELIOT doing a great job at the centre of the midfield and GEORGE,HARRY,JAMIE and COOKIE trying there best to create opportunities for DOM upfront on his lonesome, but it was Marston who got the equaliser when the ball came in from the left and was finished from close range for 1-1 ( 32 mins ). Cumnor had to keep there composure but two minutes later Marston were in front when the forward ran through on goal CAM then made a great tackle on him ( but apparently he didn't!!!) and the ref awarded a penalty kick!! the linesman flagged for outside the area but ref insisted inside!!, penalty taken and scored it was 2-1 to Marston and half-time.
With Cumnor only a goal behind they were still in the game subs were made for the start of the second half, and Marston pushed forward looking to seal the win but the Cumnor defence stood firm and HARRY made an amazing clearance of the line to keep the blues in the game from the resulting clearance Cumnor went up the other end and scored when TOM took the ball round the keeper and fire home 2-2, with 20 minutes left on the clock the game was there for the taking for either team,Marston had already hit the crossbar and this time it was Cumnors turn when HARRY hit a freekick against it, both teams had half chances to win the game and another great goal line clearance this time from JOHN with 2 minutes left meant the game was going into extra time. FT 2-2.
Cumnor stayed with the 442 formation with the hope of getting more joy upfront and getting the next goal but unfortunately the breakthrough goal came from Marston when a corner was swung in and found its way in via a Cumnor player, the Cumnor boys never dropped their heads and kept plugging away but conceded two late goals in the second period of extra time to give Marston the victory, 5-2 FT......AET.

A great performance by the boys up against a A league side they had matched them all the way, and the way the Marston boys celebrated at the end of the game (OTT )was more of one of relief rather than for the victory, they all should be very proud of themselves and if they can play like that for the rest of the season who knows what can happen!! A VERY BIG WELL DONE TO ALL.
