THE HALLOWEEN SHOW DOWN! We have been looking forward to this game Charlton and District 6 straight wins only conceding 1 goal and Cumnor Minors unbeaten and improving with every game.
Starting line up was Wills in goal, Charlie, Cameron, Harry, Matthew, Grant and Tom. Subs were Flynn and George coming back from illness. (Adam and George M on holiday) Grant changed for Flynn at HT. Flynn back on for Matthew later.
What can I say but we are all so proud of our team, they played very well and their application to the cause was excellent, you could not ask any more of them! Overall I believe Charlton were very happy with the result as I feel we were defenitely the better footballing side and created more opportunities. Particularly in the latter part of the second half when we outplayed them and they were defending.
You can see why they have not lost as their physical size and physical nature of their game will easily roll over lesser teams I thought they had Michael Ballack out their for some of the match.. We managed to equal them on this and managed to close them down well, when in dangerous positions. They had a couple of good chances and hit the bar from a cross/shot and Wills made a good save.
Overall we had many chances in front of goal and should have really scored a goal, we had lots of shots, a few goal mouth scrambles, Matthew hit the post and bar, had a goal or not a goal on the goal line, AND probably the best opportunity of the season that we missed. So a bit of bad luck.
Mentions to all, Cameron kept their attackers at bay with speed and matched their physical strength in defense. Charlie looked a lot fitter and was back to his old form with some pace and looked strong. Tom suffering from a sprained ankle from last weekend did everything that was expected (that was a lot). Harry improving with every game came close and supported the two forwards really well. Matthew playing as our main striker listened to what we wanted him to do and had an excellent game going close several times and looking to pass. Grant industrious against there large players and went close to scoring. Flynn his usual busy self with strength that belies his size. George suppporting his team as a substitute not complaining for not playing. Wills although only expecting to play in goal for the first half, selflessly continued in goal for the second half and was very solid. His kicks were very long and helped us on many attacking sorties. For his contribution to the team and self less behavior he earned his man of the match. However, everybody deserved it!
Friendly game George played most of the game but clearly is not fully fit, BUT special mentions to two players Grant was fantastic in his defensive roll and I believed enjoyed every minute (perhaps his best position?), Matthew got his just deserve for the day with a hat trick. Cumnor win 3-0. Thanks also to Matthews brother an under 8 for acting as Georges under study perhaps a fiver for appearance money might go down well!
A big thank you to all the players who were excellent - THANK YOU !!!!! - We were proud to be involved in a small way.
A small mention to our helpers today, Thanks to Lynne with Karens assistance on the tea shop and cleaning of the club house. Lee, Liam, Andy and others for assistance.
I would thank Lee for refereeing IF he had given the goal, (he lost both his appearance fee and travelling expenses) However,if he gives it next time we will pass the hat round and russle some money up to replace his loss of earnings!
That Liam bloke clearly has a couple of bob he said he would give Matthew a Fiver if he scored the penalty for the hat trick! Must tap him up for some sponsorship!
