12.12 Cumnor Minors v Charlbury TY - 3rd Rnd Cup (Win 1-0)

An excellent team performance, very good away parents, coaches and team an enjoyable morning AND  we won!

A very good solid attacking, defending and closing down performance. Their manager said his team did not play, but the reason for this was we did not let them.

Starting, Adam, George D, George M, Cam, Flynn, Harry and Wills. Bench Matthew, Grant and Tom. Charlie was ill but he came to support his friends

We started well and played the much better of the football and pressured Charlbury well. We hit the post twice and came close a couple more times. They played largely on the break from large goal kicks from their very good goalkeeper. The bounce of the ball and speed of their front men could have caused us more problems but on the most part we defended very well. Adam did not have many difficult shots to save but looked very assured and well positioned at all times.

Adam strangely was not sliding around as normal in goal, particularly when kicking the ball, apparently he said he plays much better with studs in his boots!

On an attack in the first half Wills controlled the ball perfectly with his right arm and stupidly one of the daft Cumnor managers said hand ball very loudly! Liam shouted then whistled for a free kick and the Charlbury manager was heard saying he had never heard one of the coaches calling for a free kick for a handball against his own team (such sporting behaviour). From then on a sock was inserted in the mouthy coaches throat and the problem never resurfaced.

HT 0-0

At the start of the second half we started much the same as the first. We were rewarded by a shot from Wills in the penalty area which he burried in the net on the 21st minute.

We carried on much the same and changed Flynn for Matthew, Matthew went up front and Wills dropped into the right midfield spot vacated. Shortly afterwards we replaced George D with Grant who took up the left back position.

Charlbury put on some breaks and we were looking a bit more vunerable and Harry went back into the left back position until he pulled a muscle in his arm performing a throw in. He was replaced by Tom who struggled with an injured left ankle and played everything with his right foot!!!!!!!! We pulled Wills deeper leaving Matthew on his own up front and played the balance of the game out.

1-0 an enjoyable performance of which their coach said we looked the better team and deserved it - Very generous!

Cameron or Wills could have won man of the match but everybody could have had it as far as we are concerned. Cam got it for his excellent right back performance, perhaps his best position?

Thanks to Liam for an excellent refereeing performance. However, we would like the bounce ups and return balls to be made slightly easier for us.

Friendly playing what looked like four or five up front with one or two at the back we won 3-2ish.

WELL DONE TO ALL - THE PARENTS LOVED IT - I hope the boys did as well!
