09.09 Oxford City v Cumnor minors (Loss 2-1)

Our 1st game of the season playing a team who had trained all through the summer and we understand had a few friendlies. Some of our players had done no fooball and a few touches were slightly off but this will improve with playing.

In 26.5 degree heat on a ground that was desert like in places with large patches of sand, it was HOT.

From the whistle we were a goal down in 30 seconds startled Rabbits (Camels) in headlights springs to mind.

From this we got our confidence back and started to play piercing football that gave us lots of chances. I think in the 1st half we hit the post 3 times and the bar. We even managed to clear the ball off their line. We came in half time all the chances no goals!

Second half the heat was in and we created and to be fair they did as well and they came close but only the good goal keeping from Adam kept them out and they hit the bar.

We continued to have some chances and eventually Grant put a lovely weighted through ball to Lewis who clinically finished his chance.

Again a lot of action and a lot of possession and Grant scored a great goal across the keeper but we were denied a goal for offside, should it have been or not depends on when people are in play or not in play and the rule is certainly confusing!

After all this 30 seconds from the end of normal time and they score with a small diagonal ball just outside the box.

Some games you dont get what you deserve and I know the Oxford City team were respectful of our position BUT we were mugged and kippered!

Well done to City for just keeping in the game as they say its goals that win games

Man of the match sponsored by the Sahara desert tourist board was Dom Perignon Taylor for the quality of his defensive work. Other players could easily have been in contention, the quality of football was very good and the amount of chances was excellent, on another day we would have scored a few.
