13-05-2915      INT FRIENDLY   CUMNOR MINORS  3  v  KATZENELNBOGEN  0

A new experience for the Cumnor lads playing a team from a different country!!they welcomed Katzenelnbogen from Germany and very hoped for a good performance and a enjoyable night.

With the weather in England being as unpredictable as a British general election, it was with some good fortune that the weather stayed fine and the sun shone and after pleasantries were exchanged between both teams the game kick off at 6-30pm,  Cumnor started the game very brightly and from the kick off were on the ascendency but without really cutting out a clear chance to brake the deadlock, until HARRY whipped in a great cross for WILL to crash his chance against the crossbar, the defence of SCOTT,CAM,COOKIE and JOHN were looking solid and MEHMET (deputising for ADAM in goal )also was looking fairly untroubled, 10 minutes before the break DOM found some room to run into the box but his shot hit the post, Cumnor all the way through the first half looked the more likely to get the first goal of the game but it was nearly the visitors who did when firing a shot against the upright from just inside the penalty area , the game was being played at a very fast pace and both teams looked like they were happy to come off at halftime for refreshments with the game goalless. HT 0-0

The second half started very much like the first with Cumnor going to three at the back hoping the extra man in midfield would pay dividends, 10 minutes in and GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL.........
HARRY put in another pin point cross for DOM to head home (how many times have I typed that this season?) with Cumnor now one up Katzenelnbogen the visitors had to take a few more risks thus leaving a few more gaps in the midfield, WILL'S massy run past four players finished with him just firing wide BUT he was only practising as five minutes later this time running and weaving past five of the Katzenelnbogen players finishing it off by slotting the ball home for 2-0 to the mighty minors, with TOM GEORGE, HARRY and MATTHEW running around in midfield closing down and JAMIE dropping into the left back position Cumnor were happy to sit back and see the time out, it was an added bonus when HARRYS corner was turned in five minutes from time by DOM/OG to seal the game, FT 3-0.

A great game played in great spirit but still being competitive it was great to see both sets of players and coaches congratulating each other at the end of the game.

The boys then had a penalty shoot out ENGLAND v GERMANY surely there was only one result!!
After being in the ascendancy for most of the penalty competition it was of no surprise (certainly not to the England fans watching ) that Cumnor/England bottled it and lost by 11 pens to10.

Thanks very much to Katzenelnbogen for coming to Cumnor and not only giving us a great match but for being such very nice people, thanks again to KLAUS,SYBILL and everyone else involved from Germany, the after match BBQ was a great end to a very good evening.
