11-09-16                CUMNOR MINORS  5  v  BLEWBURY BUCCUNEERS  4

Cumnors first game of the new season with four new players in the squad and a very positive attitude from the boys HOPEFULLY things were going to start well!!!!

Kicking down the famous Brookes sloop in the first half Cumnor started well and were on the front foot straight away, playing some nice football the Cumnor boys were looking to get the early breakthrough but it was Blewbury who got the first goal of the game when the centre forward ran through on goal to finish well (0-1, 10 mins), Cumnor who were still looking the stronger of the two teams and kept putting the pressure on the Blewbury goal BUT it was again the opposition who got the second goal firing in form the edge of the area (0-2,18 mins),with still 70 minutes to play there was still plenty of time for the Cumnor lads to get back in the game and if it wasn't for some great keeping and hitting the woodwork four times then they would have, but had to go in at half time behind but still very much in the game.HT 0-2.
Cumnor started the second quickly and got what the deserved when HARRY'S corner found it's way into the back of the net thanks to a Blewbury player! (og 1-2, 46mins)one minute later HARRY crashed a shot against the bar and Cumnor were on top again, BUT yet again Blewbury got the next goal(1-3,52mins) JOEL then hit the post but when HARRY ran through and played a ball to DOM and it was 2-3 when he then calmly finished the job, with everyone running there hearts out and giving every once of energy the equaliser came when DOM played through JOEL for a nice finish and his first goal in a Cumnor shirt (3-3,60 mins), Blewbury then took the lead again capitalising on a scrabble from a corner (3-4,68 mins) with the Blewbury goalkeeper again making some great saves it looked like Cumnors luck (what luck!!) had run out, that was until MEHMET put in a great cross from the left for DOM to head in,(4-4,82mins) with 8 minutes still left to play the game was up for grabs for both teams and when ADAM made a great save in the last minute it looked like Cumnors first game would end up a score draw!!!HOW WRONG CAN THE MANAGER BE(not often!!)when JOEL won Cumnor a corner the manager on the side line toyed briefly with idea of pushing everyone up and going for broke, (no settle for the point he thought)the boys of course had other idea's and when HARRY swung in another on the money corner coursing more problems for the Blewbury defence the ensuing scrabble fell for GEORGE to smash home the winner!! (5-4,89 mins).......FT 5-4.

OK what a start to the season, what a match the Cumnor boys should so proud of themselves first match the've played 90 minutes for and the first game for 5 months,........ADAM some amazing saves not at fault for any of the goals,CAM some great match winning tackles and great ball distribution, SCOTT mr strong and reliable again, HARRY C a great start to his Cumnor career a solid performance, MEHMET a great cross for Dom's goal and played really well, JAMIE kept going throughtout and added to the midfield strength in the second half, HARRY THO a very good debut with some dangerous runs down the left, GEORGE battled well in the midfield with 90 minutes on his clock kept going all game and of course scored the winner, OSMAN another Cumnor player making his debut and did a good job in the midfield, JAMES always busying around the pitch, ELIOT a great game and never gave up, battled all match, JOEL a great debut scoring one but so easily been 3 or 4,DOM yet again another great performance scoring two and causing the defence a lot of grief, HARRY TIL three assists and kept running all match and had a great game, and man of the match contender with many others.............

Man of the Match :- ADAM for some great saves and great distribution

The boys got what they deserved hitting the woodwork more times than a woodpeckers beak, with a never giving up attitude the boys got the result all there efforts deserved, well done to all....phew!!!!!!!

Cheers Mark
