15-01-17 CUP QTR FINAL CUMNOR 2 v MARSTON U17S 5
After the efforts of myself and Andy to get the game on ( forking and water draining) it was a blessed relief for the ref to turn up and say game on.........the game itself a cup qtr final against A league side Marston under 17s, and with the team now missing 2 key players this was going to be a difficult test!!
Cumnor kicking down the slope the boys started really well taking the game to Marston and after only 4 minutes Cumnor took the lead when Marston failed to clear the ball and it fell to DOM who from 30 yards out smashed the ball home, the game was end to end but when the ball broke kindly for Marston in the Cumnor box it was 1-1 (20 mins), Cumnor were still very much in the game creating some half chances but at the other end ADAM was doing his very best to keep the score level and with CAM,HARRY C and ELIOT making some crucial tackles at the back, JOEL then went close when firing just wide and from HARRYS TILL always dangerous corners Cumnor came close again, with the half time whistle sounding the boys trudged off looking tired but pleased they were still very much in the game HT 1-1.
The second half was always going to be a battle....not only against the opposition but a real test of stamina, Marston started the stronger and again some great goalkeeping from ADAM keeping out the Marston forwards BUT it was 57 minutes on the clock when Marston took the lead, but not letting their heads drop Cumnor bounced straight back when a shot from GEORGE fell to DOM who calmly turned a slotted the ball home from 12yards...2-2, Marston were putting a lot of pressure on the Cumnor goal and the defence were really being tested, MEHMET made a great goal line clearance BUT eventually Marston again took the lead with 15 minutes still left Cumnor had to try and push forward and hope the break would come...... but the equaliser didn't come and Marston finished the game off with two late goals FT 2-5.
A great performance from the boys they really did give it their all never giving up and keeping going when clearly some were very tired, credit to everyone........
Man of the Match:- ADAM with some all round great goalkeeping
special mentions to CAM,ELIOT. who had very solid games in the heart of the defence but everybody in some way or another played their part. by never giving up.
