A very physical but fair encounter on a hard pitch which resulted in constant rotation of all our players.
Our starting warriors were Adam, George 'Shooting Boots' M, George D, Charlie, Flynn, Harry and Wills.
Replacement victims were Cameron, Tom and Mathew
I will not give a list of whom came on and off for whom as we seemed to be operating a revolving door! 'Minor' injuries to Adam, Cam and Wills!
Injuries seemed to be around jarring of muscles because of the strong but very fair closing down by Banbury on the hard pitch. Adam took a particularly nasty knock towards the end of the 1st half time and was replaced by Tom. Tom proved to be an excellent stand in and deserves a thank you from the rest of the team as well as the coaches!
Banbury still spitting feathers after feeling cheated out of a game the previous week by ALLEGED dodgy refereeing, had a point to prove on a warm sunny morning. Fortunately they did not do it using the same ALLEGED dodgy refereeing as their oponents the previous week.
From the start Banbury players closed down hard and left us no room to play passing football. The game was close with both teams having few opportunities, We changed positions several times to try to break the deadlock and it was in the 19th minute that Charlie came close and hit the bar. Almost directly from this Banbury went up our end of the pitch and hit the post. Tom kept us in the game following a couple of close shaves! or was it saves!
HT 0-0
Early in the second half Banbury continued to push forward and were rewarded with a shot in our box in the 24th minute and scored, Tom had no chance. We responded shortly afterwards in the 27th minute when Harry put in a good quality cross that they attempted to defend only for a deflection to take it past their goal keeper.
Two free kicks were awarded fairly to Banbury and they gave us trouble, but we majestically defended them well with our solid defence. Unfortunately on the 37th minute Banburys attacker got the ball and passed our defence and scored a good solo goal.
At this time we were 'DOWN BUT NOT OUT' and we changed to three up front leaving our rear exposed!!! Tom kicked an enormous ball up field and we had a shot that was kicked out by Banbury only for Mathew to put in a near impossible cross, that looped over all the Banbury players and their goal keeper, underneath it was Flynn who I thought had scored the goal at least three times before he finally headed the ball calmly into the net. 2-2 - 39 minutes. As the final whistle blowed we were attacking with two against two on the break and were just outside their box and looking very dangerous. ( Mark should tell Harry to leave his Cosh at home next time).
Although a draw, a good match which was a great advertisment for under 10 football well done to both teams - But mainly Cumnor! Banbury will be up their at the end of the season!
I can confirm that I saw no two headed parents or anything of the like this week! I apologise profusely for my words last week to all the parents and will keep my mouth shut next time when I see someone talking to themselves across their own shoulders!
Overall excellent we look forward to the return match on our own spongy, comfortable pitch!
Man of the Match George D for his very physical strong defending. The No9 of Banbury and George spent most of there time leaning on each other at 45 degrees! Well done to all !
Friendly after dreadful positional play by Cumnor was 1-1 playing eight a side. George Unlucky Shooting Boots missed a couple of chances this week but at least he didnt hit any pigeons!
