05.12 Hook Norton v Cumnor Minors (Win 4-1)

Normal service is resumed excellent parents and coaches, good pitch great location,(if a little far) and good weather! The tea shop was top quality, nearly as good as Lynnes............ Also the Cumnor Coaches looked pretty good as usual........fit.......handsome...hair.....six pack....etc.....

The spirit of U10 football was here and we responded well with excellent passing and closing down, we started where we left off last week.

Started Adam, George D, Shooting and scoring boots, Flynn, Cam, Harry and Wills

Harry scored a good goal after 8 minutes to break the deadlock, we then proceeded with Will hitting the post, Harry hitting the post and Flynn hitting the bar after a good shot.
HT 1-0

Matthew for Wills and Grant for Cameron.

Second half Matthew with an excellent finish after 23 minutes, then Hook Norton with a quick break scored on 24 minutes.  2-1

Harry scored again at 27 minutes and we were 3-1 and looking very good, Mathew then hit the post and Harry scored a fine solo goal to get his second hat trick in two weeks.

Mentions to all our team for a fine team performance, pots of passing, composure on the ball, closing down is improving and good shooting. The one thing I noticed was everybody looking up to make a pass and most of the time getting themselves into a position to receive one.

Adam made some very safe and secure stops and deserves a mention for coming out when it was 3-1 and closing down a solo attacker.
George D showed good composure on the ball and score a couple of goals in the friendly.
George M looking safe as normal and made a particularly good clearance from the line.
Flynn battled and attacked and passed and was close to being man of the match, hit the bar!
Grant showed his strength in midfield and his pace when closing down their attackers.
Cameron for searing pace from the midfield.
Matthew did everything that we asked him, he held the ball up and passed and made a general nuisance of himself (not much change from normal then) and got an important goal, improving every time he plays.
Wills recovering from a mystery bug looked much better than the ghost who appeared at training briefly on Thursday, looked assured and passed well.
Harry was the same as last week, stayed further forward missed a couple but played very well with Matthew and Wills. A hat trick, no dodgy gloves and as he forgot the man of the match trophy we handed it back to him........well I suppose he deserved it!

The reason why we hit the post and bar so much was because of the thickness of the bars. They should find another use for those old aluminium Hook Norton Kegs rather than welding them together to form a goal.

Mentions for Hook Norton who always looked dangerous on the break and capable of scoring. They are such nice people and we wish players and parents well.

Friendly around 6 or 7 -1

Roll on Charlbury in the Cup they might be suprised if we continue playing this well, as long as we keep closing down and dont let them play!
