13-12-2015 SUMMERTOWN 1 v CUMNOR MINORS 4
After the great battling performance and win last week the boys were hoping to carry on their winning run with an away match against table toppers Summertown, who are unbeaten so far this season, but the Cumnor boys were looking to end that today!!
With Cumnor having two keys players missing from the starting line up, but they still started really well and were on the front foot from the kick off, after only five minutes they took a deserved lead went JOHN put a ball over the top HARRY bravely headed the ball over the advancing keeper and DOM finish the job off, Cumnor were keeping the pressure on and the midfield of JOHN,GEORGE,COOKIE and MATTHEW were working really hard and the defence were keeping Summertown down to long range attempts with CAM,SCOTT,MEHMET and ELIOT doing a great job at the back, Cumnor then doubled there lead when HARRY fired in a free-kick from 25 yards out the goalkeeper couldn't hold on to it and CAM nipped in to score ( 2-0 ). The team was then boasted by the arrival of WILL and the topless JAMIE!! (had no Cumnor shirt!!!! ),......... ADAM then had to made a couple of brave saves and at the other end another save from the Summertown keeper kept DOMS effort out, but at half time Cumnor were happy to go in two goals to the good.
The second half started and changes of personnel were made, the next goal would be crucial with both teams going close in the early stages, ADAM then made another great save when turning over a freekick, but Summertown did get a goal back when a corner was crossed in and header home for 2-1,(60) Cumnor could have dropped there heads...but not them, two minutes later a lovely build up involving ELIOT,WILL and HARRY was finished when DOM fired in Cumnors third from the edge of the area, with still 15 minutes left on the clock the game was not over but Cumnor looked solid and more than capable of holding on to their winning position and they made the game safe when WILL whipped in a ball from the right for DOM to head home for his hatrick and Cumnors fourth (70), Cumnor then saw out time for an impressive performance and win.FT 1-4.
Probably the best all round performance of the season with every single player playing their part, the boys have really now stepped up a level the last 4/5 games and we will hope they can keep this going for the final part of the season and a push for honours yet again next year!
