31-01-16 BRACKEY ATH 2 v CUMNOR MINORS 4
Cumnor travelled to Brackley yet another new experience on a pitch/venue they have not played at before,and up against a team that definitely could cause them a few problems, they had to be on there toes and up for it!!!
Yet again Cumnor got off to the perfect start when a through ball from GEORGE was finished by DOM to give the boys the lead after only 2 minutes, five minutes later and they were two up when JAMIE played a nice pass to HARRY who chipped the ball to the back post for DOM to tap in, Cumnor were in control of the game but ADAM made a good save to keep Cumnors two goal advantage, unfortunately it didn't last long when Brackley broke quickly from midfield and scored catching the defence flat footed (18mins),the game was now end to end with both teams going close before on the half hour mark JAMIE fired in from the edge of the area after some nice build up work between DOM and HARRY,3-1 nearly became 4-1 when DOM hit a post but from the resulting clearance Brackley broke and yet again scored on 37 minutes, HT 3-2 to the blues.
Cumnor changed the team around for the start of the second half with SCOTT having to come off with his previous injury playing up again, (still it was great to have him and see him back), so COOKIE dropped into the right back position and ELIOT was given the centre half duties with JOHN going back to his normal left back position (although he had done a great job in the midfield in the first half)with WILL slotting now into the midfield...........Cumnor yet again started the half well and were encamped in the Brackley half, surely it would only be a matter of time before Cumnor got their fourth goal! BUT time after time shots went wide or the keeper saved them the ball was even headed of the line after a shot from MATTHEW, BUT the goal would not come even when DOM was blatantly brought down in the box the ref somehow decided it was a corner!!!!! ( obviously it was corner my mistake!!!!!!!) with time ticking on Brackley were gaining in confidence and ADAM had to another make good save to stop Brackly getting the equaliser, COOKIE was doing a great job at the back keeping Brackleys dangerous forward quiet and CAM,ELIOT and JOHN were also looking unbreachable, HARRY then went of with a blooded nose and concussion when clashing heads with JOHN, but MEHMET came on to play in his third different position of the day and with only two minutes left on the clock Cumnor finally got the goal they deserved when JAMIE ran through on goal rounded the keeper and smashed the ball home...4-2 FT.
A great battling performance by the boys who were not only up against a good team,the pitch but some very unusual refereeing decisions as well, they did very well to get a much deserved victory!!
Man of the Match :- CAM for yet another great performance at the back.
special mentions :- to JAMES (cookie) ELIOT and JOHN all had great second half performances, and ADAM who made some great saves at vital moments in the game.
