 28-02-16                       CUMNOR MINORS 6 v ARDINGTON EAGLES 2

After another four week period without a match the boys needed to be up and ready for a difficult game against Ardington whom themselves are a very good footballing side and who would want to finish their own season on a high.

On a very indifferent pitch the Cumnor boys started the game well and were knocking on the Ardington goal from the kick off going close on several occasions but not managing to get the first goal, in fact it was Ardington who should have taken the lead when there forward hit the bar and miss kicked the rebound wide.....(much to Cumnors relief,) but from the resulting goal kick WILL found some space in the centre of the pitch played a ball through to HARRY on the left and from just inside the box he fired into the corner of the net to give Cumnor the lead (25 mins), unfortunately the lead didn't last long as five minutes later Ardington got the equaliser, with only three minutes remaining before the break Cumnor took the lead again when a corner from HARRY was prodded goal wards by CAM and finished off by DOM.....2-1 and they were not finished there when GEORGE got the assist when playing a ball through to DOM who smashed the ball home from the eight yards out (bonus) HT 3-1.
In the second half again Cumnor started the brighter of the two teams now playing a 4-5-1 formation DOM found some space on the edge of the area before turning and firing his shot into the corner of the net for his hatrick and Cumnors fourth on 45 mins, Ardington then went close when hitting the post before grabbing a goal back on 55 minutes.....with still 25 minutes left of the match to go the game was far from over Ardington were looking more and more dangerous but the defensive quintet of ADAM,ELIOT,CAM,SCOTT and MEHMET were all looking solid and Cumnor added to their tally when WILL and HARRY combined well before setting up DOM for his fourth of the match (65) the Cumnor boys still kept plugging away with all the midfield players working hard and they sealed a great victory when from a corner from HARRY there was a scramble in the area with GEORGE finally headed home from close range (77mins)......... FT 6-2.

Not the prettiest performance by the Cumnor boys but credit to all of them as they tried to play football on a difficult pitch and got there just rewards, they go into next weeks massive home match against Charlbury full of confidence, well done to all.

Man of the match:- DOM four goals and chasing down up front on his own and SCOTT back to his best..strong and reliable.

special mentions to HARRY who had a good game one goal and three assists WILL and GEORGE for their constant running and MEHMET who probably played his best game of the season.
