06-03-16 CUMNOR MINORS 3 v CHARLBURY YOUTH 2
Another week and another difficult match against a Charlbury team whom we lost to very heavily at the start of the season, so not only will the boys be looking for revenge but hoping to secure the runners up spot today.
Cumnor for a change started the game very slowly!!and did all look a bit nervy......unfortunately this was evident when Charlbury took the lead from a corner after only five minutes, some words of encouragement!! from the management on the side lines and Cumnor were slowly working there way back into the game and doing there best to keep the dangerous Charlbury midfield/forwards at bay.
There were 23 minutes on the clock when WILL put a nice through ball to DOM to run on to and smash into the net..1-1 game on! Cumnor were now looking like there normal selves battling, closing down and trying to create chances for the forwards and were rewarded for there hard work when some nice build up play from HARRY and WILL ended with DOM firing home when following up the goalkeepers parry....2-1, the defence of CAM,SCOTT,MEHMET and JOHN were now looking tighter than a drum but nearly got undone just before halftime when some nice build up play from Charlbury resulted in ADAM making a fantastic save to keep Cumnors slender lead at HT 2-1 blues.
In the second half Cumnor were putting more and more pressure on the Charlbury defence with WILL and HARRY always looking dangerous and trying there best to create chances for the always very dangerous DOM and JAMIE and with COOKIE,GEORGE and ELIOT working there socks off in the middle of the park backing them up, chance after chance came and went with the time ticking on could Cumnor hold on to this vital win?.........with 10 minutes left the answer was NO when Charlbury broke and scored (2-2,) MATTHEW then came on to inject some more pace up front but Cumnor were looking a little bit venerable (what am I talking about !!!)with 4 minutes left on the clock another ball from WILL found DOM inside the area he twisted turned and smashed the ball home yet again( for his 28th goal of the season)to give Cumnor the lead, TOM came on for a late cameo and nearly sealed the victory BUT Cumnor hung on and got the result which secured them 2nd place in the league..FT 3-2.phew!!
Well what can I say after a very sticky start to the game the boys dug in and turned the game around, all credit to them for that and for all of them giving 100% (of which is what I had asked )winning our last eight games has been a fantastic achievement and they very much deserve their runners up spot.
Men of the match:-DOM for yet another winning hatrick and for working his socks off, SCOTT powerhouse no nonsense performance and ELIOT for his engine in the midfield.
BUT EVERYONE PLAYED THERE PART...A VERY BIG WELL DONE........cheers Mark
