17-04-16 KIDLINGTON COMETS 4 v CUMNOR MINORS 1
After six weeks without a competitive match the boys have had a long wait to play their final league game of the season, away to a Kidlington side who beat Cumnor first time around at home the boys were looking to reverse that score line and get revenge on them with a final strong performance.
Cumnor started the game the only way they know how to (strongly) and had lots of possession in the Kidlington half but without creating any clear cut opportunities, DOM went close on 20 minutes shooting just wide and HARRY had a shoot saved and turn round the post for a corner, the corners one after another seemed to be swung in without any resulting success, it only looked like it a matter of time before Cumnor would take a deserved lead! at the other end ADAM was fairly untroubled with SCOTT and CAM rocks in the centre keeping any breakaways quite and with JOHN he was mopping up everything that was coming his way, all that was missing from Cumnors first half performance was a goal!!with 44 minutes on the clock the goal came...............unfortunately a cumnor player did sore it BUT in the wrong goal when ELIOT was very unlucky to deflect a cross into his own net HT 1-0.
Cumnor made a couple of changes to the line up at the start of the second half and again from the off were looking strong going forward JAMIE crashed a shoot against the bar and again Cumnor were looking the stronger of the two teams BUT yet again it was Kdlington who took a two goal lead when from a corner MATT unfortunately headed into his own net! now 2 goals down Cumnor had to take chances and push forward only then to be caught on the break and with 20 minutes left were now three down and facing an uphill struggle to get anything out of the game, DOM then fired in a goal from the edge of the area to reduce the arrears and give Cumnor some hope, and with plenty of pressure being put on the Kidlington defence Cumnor were still not getting the breaks and with most players pushing forward and leaving only three at the back Cumnor were also very venerable to the counter attack, this unfortunately did happen and with only seven minutes left it was 4-1 to Kidlington.. and game over!!FT 4-1.
All credit to the boys who never gave up despite never having the rub of the green or the bounce of the ball they were definitely the best team in the first half and probably should have gone into the second half with at least a deserved two goal lead BUT these things happen in football.
Anyway we end up finishing the runners up in a very competitive league and have put in some fantastic performances throughout the season so the boys should not be beating themselves up about one indifferent performance but they should be very proud of what they have achieved all season...LIKE I AM!
