25-09-16 CUMNOR 1 v CHARLBURY 3
After last weeks battling win at Chalgrove the boys were looking to carry on their great start to the season, but without SCOTT (injury) and JAMES (sick) and playing against a strong Charlbury side this was going to be a very difficult game for everyone!
Cumnor started the game playing against the very strong wind but still started the game well playing some nice football and creating some decent half chances, and when JAMIE hit the post it seemed only a matter of time before Cumnor would take the lead, all the midfield were working really well together (HARRY,GEORGE,JAMIE and HARRY)and Charlburys dangerous weapon ( the GK kicks ) were giving the defence troubles but CAM,ELIOT,HARRY,MEHMET and ADAM were keeping them under total control!!JOEL and DOM then had good chances to give the blues the lead but were unsuccessful with the goalkeeper denying them both and with the halftime whistle going the boys trudged off a little disappointed that they weren't in a least a two goal lead, but at HT is was 0-0.
Cumnor now playing with the wind behind were hoping to take advantage of that and again started well and again had some good half chances but just couldn't find the back of the net......HARRY then smashed a free-kick just wide and DOM again went very close, but it was Charlbury who broke the deadlock on 60 minutes when the forward cut in from the left to fire home, BUT 15 seconds later Cumnor equalised when DOM swung a cross in for JOEL to put pressure on defender causing him to head past his own goalkeeper, with still over 25 minutes left to play the game was still very much in the balance but it was there for Cumnor to win!!!!! five minutes later Charlbury went 2-1 up.......Cumnor still pushed forward and were always looking the more likely to get the next goal, the ball over the top didn't seemed to be working but the boys kept persisting with it hoping that finally it would pay off!!!!!! with five minutes left Charlbury broke and got their third goal and the decisive one,Cumnors game was over....FT 1-3.
Can't criticise the boys heart and effort in todays match and definitely deserved more from it.....BUT as we all know by now THATS FOOTBALL and I'm sure they will be more than determined to bounce back next week. Lets keep our heads up boys.
