09-10-2016 GROVE 1 v CUMNOR 5
After the rugby score of lasts weeks game the boys were hoping to carry on their scoring antics in a away match at Grove, this wasn't going to be very be easy tough!!!
After 15 seconds of the match Cumnor so nearly took the lead when DOM clipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper BUT unfortunately the ball hit the post and was cleared, what a quick start from the Cumnor boys who looked to be winning the midfield battle from the start and were creating chances for the forwards,JOEL then pounced onto a poor goalkick and finished well for 1-0 after 10 minutes, Cumnor were now controlling the game but without building on their lead were always looking venerable to the break away... but the defence of CAM,JAMIE,MEHEMET and HARRY TH were also looking solid and were cutting out any chances that Grove were getting and with ADAM doing his usual great solid job between the sticks, and after 35 minutes Cumnor doubled their lead when a nice pass from ELIOT fed HARRY TI on the left who put in a great cross for JOEL to nod in at the back post and five minutes later it was 3-0 when HARRY TI ran down the left wing crossed the ball over for the Grove defender to smashed the ball home!!!HT 0-3.
At 3-0 the game is never safe and the next goal in the game was going to be the important one, fortunately for Cumnor it came from them when HARRY C swung in a great corner for ELIOT to power a header home, Cumnor were now in cruise control and just had to keep their heads and not do anything stupid, the midfield of GEORGE,JAMES,OSMAN,DOM,and HARRY TI were all working hard to keep control of the game but from a quick throw in Grove had a goal back and were all of a sudden back in the match........no one needn't have worried as three minutes later JAMIE hit a clearance/shot from the half way line which caught the keep of his guard and finished in the back of the net 1-5, (77 mins) Cumnor saw out the rest of time comfortably and had won the game by 5-1.
A great team performance everybody playing their part in what could have been a tricky fixture, the boys have showed real character in their first 5 games of the season and are doing very well, a great team spirit and teamwork helps WELL DONE TO ALL.
Man of the Match:- JAMIE for a great performance in the defence and a great goal!!
special mention to HARRY C,CAM and ELIOT all of whom had a solid games
